FAQ

Who is Renaissance for? Do I have to be a member?

You don’t have to consider yourself a Christian to attend Renaissance. In fact, we don’t even have formal membership. Renaissance is for people who want to explore who God is, and how He relates to their lives. In other words, we encourage questions – even tough ones. We have people from just about every spiritual background, from Catholics, to Episcopalians, to Lutherans, to Presbyterians, to Jews, to Atheists (and everything in-between).

What do you have for my kids?

We know how much your kids mean to you. That’s why they mean so much to us! It all starts on Sunday mornings with our Renaissance Kids classes, which are fun, engaging, and age appropriate. In fact, it’s often the kids that drag their parents back to Renaissance! We have numerous special events for kids such as our Back-to-school Blow-out, Halloween Carnival, February Festival, and the kids very own American Idol Night!

What denomination are you?

We are an independent Christian church. Basically that means that we believe in what you might call classic or orthodox Christianity, but are not governed by a denominational hierarchy. We are governed by a board of Overseers, in partnership with ministry-specific teams of volunteers (kids, arts, spiritual formation, finance, facility, etc.) who fulfill a variety of leadership roles. We voluntarily associate ourselves with the Willow Creek Association, an organization made up of like-minded churches from virtually every Christian denomination.

What are your services like?

Our services are designed to be accessible to just about anyone, regardless of their spiritual experience or background. Our messages (sermons) are practical, relevant, and taken from the Bible. Our environment is casual and comfortable, and our music consists of modern styles and features the Renaissance Band. We strive to create a thought-provoking, fun and engaging place for men, women and children of all ages to explore faith in the God of the universe.

On the first Sunday of the month at 6 PM, we have a Sunday evening service called Vespers.  It's a contemplative, worshipful time of Scripture, teaching, readings, music and Communion.  It's a great place for those who are seeking to strengthen their relationship with Christ.

Do I have to give money?

Absolutely not. While like most churches, we’re dependant upon the giving of those who call Renaissance their church home, we believe that all giving should be a response to God’s blessings in our lives, and in no way be the result of guilt or compulsion. Your giving to Renaissance is between you and God.

How do I get connected?

At Renaissance we have many ways to plug in. For those who want to grow in their faith, we offer various studies and groups, as well as the opportunity to meet with someone one-on-one to explore a particular area of faith. We value relationships at Renaissance, and have many events designed to help people get to know each other in fun settings such as parties, concerts, seminars, and wine tasting. For those looking to get involved through serving, there are numerous opportunities depending on your area of interest. Investigating any of these opportunities is as simple as contacting us.

Where do I park?

In addition to street parking, there are several public lots available:
  • Park & shop lot #1 (Deforest Ave. & Woodland Ave.)
  • Park & Shop lot #2 (Deforest Ave. & Maple St.)
  • Park & Shop lot #3 (Deforest Ave. & Summit Ave.)
